“Let My Mouth Be Filled with Thy Praise and with Thy Honour All the Day”

Psalm 71:8, 15

8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day. . . .
15 My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

Elder Bruce R McConkie wrote:

“From the Psalms we extract these samples of the divine counsel that men should praise Jehovah: ‘I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.’ (Ps. 7:17.) ‘O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!’ (Ps. 8:1.) ‘Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day. . . . My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day.’ (Ps. 71:8, 15.) ‘Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. . . . Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. Bless the Lord, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul.’ (Ps. 103:1–2, 20–22.) ‘Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.’ (Ps. 104:1.) ‘Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!’ (Ps. 107:8.) Psalms 148, 149, and 150 recite who should praise the Lord and tell why. They end with these exulting words: ‘Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.’”
