Daily “Come, Follow Me” Scripture and Quote – Church History, Lesson 36, Day 7

By September 4, 2022No Comments

The Lord expects His people to care for the poor and needy—spiritually and temporally, both inside and outside the Church. Some ways by which we can accomplish this are sharing the gospel, paying a generous fast offering, and contributing to the humanitarian efforts of the Church and other organizations that provide humanitarian relief at home and across the world.

Doctrine and Covenants 104:18

18 . . .[I]f any man shall take of the abundance which I have made, and impart not his portion, according to the law of my gospel, unto the poor and the needy, he shall, with the wicked, lift up his eyes in hell, being in torment.

President Gordon B. Hinckley said:

“There must be no diminution in our effort to carry the gospel to the people of the earth. In the future even more of our young men must prepare themselves to go out in service to the Lord. Our Christian acts must precede them and accompany them wherever necessary. I am grateful for the humanitarian aid we have been able to extend to the poor and the unfortunate. This very day hungry children are eating food in North Korea because of the aid which you have sent. In a world where there is so much of hunger and suffering, where death walks hand in hand with little children, we must continue and enlarge our efforts, not permitting politics or other factors to hold back the hand of mercy.”

(“Look to the Future,” Ensign, Nov. 1997, 68.)
