“Mine Everlasting Covenant”
Doctrine and Covenants 49:9
9 Wherefore, I say unto you that I have sent unto you mine everlasting covenant, even that which was from the beginning.
President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote:
“The everlasting covenant . . . is, briefly, the fulness of the gospel. It embraces all of the laws, ordinances, principles, covenants, and promises pertaining to our salvation. For instance, baptism is spoken of . . . as ‘a new and everlasting covenant, even that which was from the beginning’ [D&C 49:9; compare D&C 22]. Confirmation, ordination, marriage in the way the Lord has given it, are new and everlasting covenants, but these are but parts of the new and everlasting covenant, which embraces them all.”
(Church History and Modern Revelation, 2 vols. [1953], 1:209.)
