Every Man Should Seek the Interest of His Neighbor
Doctrine and Covenants 82:19–20
19 Every man seeking the interest of his neighbor, and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God.
20 This order I have appointed to be an everlasting order unto you, and unto your successors, inasmuch as you sin not.
President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote:
“With the Lord’s laws enforced, it was required that every man seek the interest of his neighbor, ‘and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God’ [D&C 82:19]. This was to be ‘an everlasting order’ to all the brethren and to their successors, if they would accept it and sin not [see D&C 82:20]. It is verily true that before we can enter into the celestial kingdom we will have to learn how to live in unity with the love of our fellows at heart, desiring their good as well as our own, and not preferring ourselves before them.”
