“Ye Shall Be Holy: For I the Lord Your God Am Holy”
Leviticus 19:1–2
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.
Dr. Ellis T. Rasmussen wrote:
“Translated here as holy, the Hebrew qadosh connotes being ‘set apart, consecrated, dedicated, sacred, sanctified’; hence the alternate translation, ‘ye shall be saints’ [Leviticus 19:2a]. This chapter is a collection of concise reminders of the ways a dedicated, saintly people should live [see Leviticus 19:1–2 and footnote].”
