“Israel Murmurs and Lusts for Meat Instead of Manna”
Numbers 11:4–6
4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
Elder Orson Hyde said:
“. . . [A]fter the children of Israel had such a glorious triumph and sang the songs of deliverance [see Exodus 15:1], how soon they murmured against the authority of God and the Holy One who was appointed to lead them. They wanted the flesh, the leeks, and onions of Egypt [see Numbers 11:4–5]; and the Lord was forced to come out of His hiding place and cut them off from the face of the earth [see Numbers 11:1]; and there fell in one day three-and-twenty thousand [see Exodus 32:28; 1 Corinthians 10:8].”
