The Lord Assures Joshua That He Will Be with Him in His New Assignment as Israel’s Prophet-Leader
Joshua 1:5
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
President Howard W. Hunter said:
“Joshua is remembered as the one who, on the death [translation] of Moses, took command and completed the task of giving leadership to the tribes of Israel. Perhaps to comfort Joshua, who now had the responsibility for the children of Israel, who didn’t yet have a homeland, and perhaps to comfort that large body of people who had just lost their leader of more than forty years, the Lord spoke to Joshua and said:
“‘As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee’ (Joshua 1:5).”
