Moses proclaims, “The Lord our God is one Lord,” and, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God.” The children of Israel are commanded to teach their children.
Deuteronomy 6:4–7
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
President Russell M. Nelson said:
“From the first days of human history, the Lord has commanded parents to teach the gospel to their children (see Moses 6:57–58; Mosiah 4:14–15). Moses wrote, ‘Thou shalt teach . . . diligently . . . thy children, and shalt talk of [God’s words] when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up’ (Deuteronomy 6:7). In our day the Lord has added, ‘Bring up your children in light and truth’ (D&C 93:40; see also D&C 68:28).”
