“Seek ye the Lord, . . . Seek Righteousness, Seek Meekness”
Zephaniah 2:1–3; 3:8
1 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;
2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the Lord’s anger come upon you.
3 Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord’s anger. . . .
8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Elder Bruce R. McConkie wrote:
“The prophetic word would be incomplete if it did not tell men what they must do to avoid being consumed in the dread day of burning that will attend our Lord’s glorious return. ‘Gather yourselves together’ is the divine call to Israel. ‘Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord’s anger’ (Zeph. 2:1–3). Believe the gospel; join the only true and living Church; keep the commandments—this is the voice of the Lord to all men everywhere. ‘Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy’ (Zeph. 3:8). He speaks of Armageddon, which in part shall consume the wicked.”
